Typescripts of two reminiscences by Fredrick Bracher, who eventually became a professor of literature in southern California. The longer of the two is "How it was then : Oregon in the early twentieth century," completed in 1981 and regarding the author's childhood in Oregon during the early twentieth century. Subjects include: work, recreation, family relations, school, early Portland, fishing, Oaks Amusement Park, the Oregon coast, dating, logging, forests, the Clackamas area, and transportation. The second piece, written in 1984, is titled "Monterey in the forties" and contains Bracher's reminiscences about family summers in and around Monterey and Pacific Grove, California. Topics include: marine biology, sardine canneries, local history, customs, and interesting persons in and around the area.
